Membership is comprised of the most talented string, wind and percussion musicians in the area. Not only are students held to the highest musical standards, they also must demonstrate outstanding practice habits, adherence to attendance and overall dedication to the ensemble. This will model a “professional orchestra” experience to prepare students for further performance opportunities throughout their lifetime. Students in the Philharmonic Orchestra rehearse 2½ hours weekly and present four concerts per season.
Competition
Philharmonic members are encouraged to enter the Concerto Competition. This competition is held each December, and the winner is invited to perform as a soloist with the orchestra the following March.
Rehearsals and Requirements
Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings during the school year from 6:30-8:30 PM. All BSYO musicians are expected to participate in their school instrumental music programs and are encouraged to study privately.
