Philharmonic Orchestra

This orchestra is our flagship ensemble comprised of the most talented string, wind, and percussion players. These students are held to the highest musical standards in addition to demonstrated outstanding practice habits, dedication to the ensemble and adherence to strict attendance policies. The ensemble is known for its expertise in the field of artistic music making with professional level orchestra literature. The ensemble not only performs standard repertoire; it also showcases “musical gems” by great composers not often heard in “mainstream” America concert Halls.

Competition

Philharmonic members are encouraged to enter the Concerto Competition. This competition is held each December, and the winner is invited to perform as a soloist with the orchestra the following March.

Rehearsals and Requirements

Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings during the school year from 6:30-8:30 PM. All BSYO musicians are expected to participate in their school instrumental music programs and are encouraged to study privately.
