String Ensemble

Membership is comprised of beginning string students who are selected through an audition process and teacher/consultant recommendation.  Although members are younger and less experienced musicians (some have no orchestral experience), they should have basic note-reading skills, including the ability to identify pitch names and play various rhythms using whole, half, quarter and eighth notes. Under the direction of Linda Woodrich, students rehearse 1½ hours weekly and present three concerts.

Repertoire

Works performed last season included Vivaldi’s “Autumn” From the Four Seasons, Theme from “Advent Rising”, Mozart’s Dona Nobis Pacem and Yamada’s Zou-san (Japanese Folk Song).

Rehearsals and Requirements

Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings during the school year from 6:15-7:45 PM at the Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation, located at 4676 N. Wickham Road in Melbourne. All BSYO musicians are expected to participate in their school instrumental music programs.
