​String Ensemble Auditions:

Monday, September 16 at Eau Gallie High School

AUDITION POLICIES:

  • - All BSYO ensembles require a placement audition. 

  • - Each audition has a $25 fee payable at sign-up.
    - Students must be enrolled in their school string/orchestra program to participate in BSYO.

  • - If you need assistance in selecting an appropriate ensemble for your child, please email bsyoinfo@gmail.com.

  • - Interested Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion students should contact dominickeggen@gmail.com for audition requirements.

2024-2025 Audition Excerpts

String Ensemble

Audition Requirements 2024-2025

The String Ensemble is designed for developing string players and the group plays middle school literature.  Students auditioning for String Ensemble should prepare the following:

​

  • 3 Major scales and arpeggios: D, G, & C (one octave required, two/three octaves optional)

  • Solo of the student's choosing that best showcases playing ability (about 1 minute)

  • No sight-reading or Excerpts 1, 2, or 3 required.

Violin Orchestra

Festivo

Audition Requirements 2024-2025

Festivo Orchestra is an intermediate ensemble and the group plays advanced middle school/early high school literature.  Students auditioning for Festivo Orchestra should prepare the following:

  • Excerpt 1 (students will be asked to play a portion of Excerpt 1, chosen by the conductors)

  • Major scales and arpeggios.  Conductors will choose one scale from the following (students can play additional octaves if they wish):

    • Violin: Two octaves- C, G, D/ One octave- A, F

    • Viola & Cello:  Two octaves C, G, D / One octave- A, F

    • Bass: One octave- C, G, D, A, F

  • Sight reading 

Chamber Orchestra

Audition Requirements 2024- 2025

Chamber Orchestra is an advanced ensemble and the group plays advanced high school literature.  Students auditioning for Chamber Orchestra should prepare the following: 

  • Excerpt 1 & 2 (students will be asked to play a portion of Excerpt 1 & 2, chosen by the conductors)

  • Major scales and arpeggios.  Conductors will choose one scale from the following (students can play additional octaves if they wish):

    • Violin: Two octaves- C, G, D, A, F, Bb, Eb

    • Viola & Cello:  Two octaves C, G, D, A, F, Bb, Eb

    • Bass: Two octaves- G, F/ One octave- C, D, A, Bb, Eb

  • Sight reading 

Young Musicians

Symphony Orchestra

Audition Requirements 2024-2025

The Symphony Orchestra is our most advanced ensemble that plays collegiate and professional level repertoire.  Students auditioning for the Symphony Orchestra should prepare the following

: 

  • Excerpt 2 & 3 (students will be asked to play a portion of Excerpt 2 & 3, chosen by the conductors)

  • Major scales and arpeggios.  Conductors will choose one scale from the following (students can play additional octaves if they wish):

    • Violin: Three octaves- G, A, Bb/ Two octaves- C, D, F, Eb

    • Viola & Cello:  Three octaves- C, D, Eb/ Two Octaves- G, A, F, Bb

    • Bass: Two octaves- C, G, A, F, Bb/ One octave- D, Eb

  • Sight reading
